VisionBound: Detecting and
Connecting to a Powerful Mission
You
can hardly read an article or book on leadership today without reading
about the importance of having a deeply communicated and effective mission
statement and vision. I have developed a very effective and vigorous model
and method for guiding teams and organizations in creating, reworking
or "bonding to" a vision and mission statement. I will guide
you through the process of envisioning, brainstorming and drafting a powerful
mission statement. In reality, we don’t really create mission statements
so much as detect them. Interactive exercises and thought-provoking
discussions will help you focus on identifying core values, goals and
principles and weaving them into organizational mission statements.
DESIRED OUTCOME
Our end result will be a workgroup or team that deeply understands the
importance of vision and mission statements. More than that, we will actually
draft a powerful mission statement by the end of the workshop.
KEY CONCEPTS
Vision and mission statements; strategic planning; identifying key roles,
goals and values; how to involve others in developing the mission statement;
actually composing and formatting vision, mission and action statements.
LENGTH
2-6 hours, depending on what objectives are desired. Basic concepts can
be covered in two hours and the organization can then continue on its
own. In 4-6 hours, the complete process of developing a powerful vision
and mission statement can be accomplished.
