Of One Mind: Improving Interpersonal and Office Communication

Haven’t you ever experienced the joy of truly great communication…when you became "of one mind" with another and felt the magical, mystical feeling of true, deep and mutual understanding? This is one of my very favorite workshops because people tell me it has changed their lives both at home in their personal relationships, and on the job as well. We explore the four basic styles of communication (assertive, aggressive, passive, and passive-aggressive) and how they interplay in the office and personal settings. We actually role-play tools such as the powerful "I-message," and learn how to use gentle, clear, and assertive communication to improve relationships and overall effectiveness in working with others. The workshop includes role-playing, discussions, and other interactive techniques. I've got a great PowerPoint show that adds humor and depth.

Note: The most powerful course I teach on communication is Crucial Conversations, a two day program based on the bestselling book by that title. Information is available by clicking on course description.

DESIRED OUTCOME
Improved communication throughout the workplace and personal settings through a better understanding of assertiveness and other communication skills.

What constitutes effective communication; blocks to communication; four styles of communication: passive, aggressive, passive-aggressive, assertive; validating emotions; use of I-messages instead of you-messages; and other related concepts.
