The Four Horsemen: Coaching, Mentoring,
Counseling and Confronting
It is the responsibility of leaders to motivate and direct people to become
greater than they currently are. I have found that many leaders simply
do not know how to do this. They worry about coming across too strong,
and therefore appear too weak. I have developed this workshop to teach
the skills and principles of effective coaching, mentoring and counseling,
tools that are proven to increase productivity, satisfaction and positive
relationships in any organization. I’ll provide the basic information
and practice you need to become a powerful and effective coach, mentor
and counselor to your co-workers. But, when coaching, mentoring and counseling
fail, a supervisor may need to confront an employee with a no-nonsense
ultimatum: this skill will also be taught in the workshop.
DESIRED OUTCOME
More effective coaches, mentors and counselors who are gently and skillfully
guiding their team members toward greater productivity and effectiveness,
and have the confidence and skill to confront when necessary.
RECOMMENDED FOR
Anyone responsible for developing others through coaching, mentoring and
counseling. This workshop is ideal for supervisors of full and part-time
employees.
KEY CONCEPTS
The differences between coaching, mentoring, counseling and confronting
and when each is used; how to be an effective coach, mentor and counselor,
when and how to confront; how to set up a formal mentoring program.
LENGTH
2-4 hours, depending on what outcomes are desired. Two hours are sufficient
to cover and practice the skills. Four hours enable deeper learning and
practice and working on specific issues.
